Pokemon Weakness Calculator
The “Nuzlocke Saver”: Why the Pokémon Weakness Calculator Is the Only Tool You Need to Beat the Elite Four
You are in the middle of a high-stakes Gym Battle. You send out your trusty Scizor. It’s a Steel/Bug type—one of the best defensive typings in the game. You feel invincible.
The opponent sends out a Chandelure. You think, “I can tank one hit.”
One Flamethrower later, your Scizor is gone. One-shot. OHKO.
Why? Because you forgot the math. Steel is weak to Fire. Bug is weak to Fire. That isn’t just a weakness; that is a 4x Super Effective catastrophe.
Whether you are grinding Ranked Battles in Scarlet & Violet, attempting a hardcore Nuzlocke run, or just trying to finally beat Cynthia in Brilliant Diamond, memorizing the interactions of 18 different elemental types is a nightmare.
We built the Pokémon weakness calculator (above) to be your digital Pokédex. It doesn’t just tell you what’s “Super Effective”; it reveals the hidden 4x weaknesses and 0x immunities that decide the outcome of every battle.
The Complexity of the Type Chart
In the days of Pokémon Red & Blue, things were simple. Water beat Fire. Fire beat Grass.
Today, there are 18 Elemental Types and hundreds of Dual-Type Pokémon. Dual typing changes everything. It creates complex algebraic interactions that our brains struggle to calculate on the fly.
The Math of Defeat:
- 2x Weakness: This hurts, but you might survive. (e.g., Water hitting Fire).
- 4x Weakness (Hyper Weakness): This is a death sentence. This happens when both of a Pokémon’s types are weak to the same attack.
- Example: Gyarados (Water/Flying). Electric hits Water (2x). Electric hits Flying (2x). Result: 4x Damage. One Thunderbolt, and it’s over.
How to Use the Calculator
This tool acts as your battle computer.
Step 1: Identify the Defender Are you worried about your Pokémon getting hit, or are you trying to take down an opponent? Enter the types of the Pokémon receiving the damage.
- Example: You are facing a Garchomp. You know it’s a dragon, but what else? (It’s Dragon/Ground).
Step 2: Input the Dual Types Select Dragon for Type 1 and Ground for Type 2.
- Note: If the Pokémon has only one type (like Pikachu), leave Type 2 as “None.”
Step 3: Analyze the Data Hit “Analyze Defense.” The calculator instantly scans all 18 attacking types against your specific combination.
The Results Display:
- Hyper Weaknesses (4x): These are the blinking red alerts. For Garchomp, you will see ICE. (Dragon is weak to Ice, Ground is weak to Ice).
- Immunities (0x): These are free switch-ins. Garchomp is immune to Electric.
- Resistances (0.25x – 0.5x): These are attacks you can safely “tank.”

Why Nuzlockers Live by This Tool
In a “Nuzlocke” challenge, if a Pokémon faints, it is dead forever. You release it. There are no second chances.
Professional Nuzlockers don’t guess. They calculate. They know that sending a Swampert (Water/Ground) into a Grass-type enemy is suicide (4x Weakness to Grass), even if Swampert is 10 levels higher.
Using this calculator prevents the “tragedy of the crit.” Even a critical hit from a resisted move is survivable. A critical hit from a 4x effective move is a game-over screen.
The “Fairy” Factor
If you haven’t played since Gen 5, you might be confused by the Fairy type. Introduced to balance the overpowered Dragon type, Fairy completely changed the meta.
- It is immune to Dragon.
- It is super effective against Fighting, Dragon, and Dark.
- It is weak to Poison and Steel.
Our calculator is fully updated for Generation 9, meaning it accounts for these modern matchups that older players often forget.
The Verdict
Knowledge is the ultimate stat boost.
You don’t need to memorize the entire chart. You just need to know where to look. Use the Pokémon weakness calculator above before every Gym Leader, every Raid Boss, and every PvP match.
Don’t let a 4x weakness end your win streak. Check your types, choose your moves, and become the Champion.
