How to Use the Calculator

This tool acts as a “Pre-Assessment” to prepare you for the real DWP form.

Step 1: The Daily Living Audit (Tab 1) Go through the activities. Be brutally honest, but remember the “50% Rule”: Does this condition affect you more than 50% of the time? If yes, select the option that matches your bad days.

• Example: “Preparing Food.” If you can’t use a cooker safely because you might faint or forget it’s on, select “I need supervision.” That is an instant 4 points.

Step 2: The Mobility Check (Tab 2) This is where many people lose out. Mobility isn’t just about walking. It’s about planning.

• If you have severe anxiety or cognitive struggles that stop you from leaving the house alone, you could score 10 points for “Planning and Following Journeys.”
• The Walking Test: The calculator asks how far you can walk safely and repeatedly. If you can walk 50 meters but are in agony afterward, for PIP purposes, you cannot do it. Select the lower distance.

Step 3: The Score Gauge (Results) Hit “Calculate.”

• Look at the dials. Are you at 6 points? You are close. Re-read the descriptors. Did you underestimate your need for “prompting” or “aids”?
• The Cash Value: The calculator estimates your weekly tax-free income.
